In A Blueberry Jam painting

CAMILLA DAVID ART

I have worked for decades as an artist in the visual and performing arts. Continually inspired by the hues in nature, fields, oceans and flowers, several years ago I returned to abstract painting after fifteen years as founder and president of a successful textile design company, Camilla David Textiles, Inc. www.camilladavidtextiles.comMy past study of art history, drawing, painting, gouache, and pastels and my background in theater, interior and textile design have helped shape my paintings.

My current painting style is based in the Abstract Expressionist art trend that emerged in New York in the 1940s and became an influential international art movement. Born and raised in Washington, DC, I have been directly influenced by prior painting and drawing coursework at the Corcoran School of Art under instructors Gene Davis, Paul Reed, and Leon Berkowitz - all members of the Washington Color School movement of the 1950s and 1960s. My compositions combine my captivation with the Abstract Expressionist movement and my admiration of the Washington Color School artists.

Activating bold strokes of vibrant color and varied mark making, I create colorful abstract movement on my canvases. I apply acrylic paint and a variety of other mediums as needed, including: markers, oil, wax, chalk pastels, inks, pastes, and collage. I intend for my gestural style and personal approach to take viewers on a satisfying visual and emotional journey.
